April 2018. Meetup Tee-Picknick im Volkspark Friedrichshain mit zwei Handvoll teebegeisterten Fremden. Die Gruppe war nicht leicht zu finden, weil der Park übervoll war. Iris und ich (separat) gingen mehrere Runden, bis wir den Spot gefunden haben. Fast hätten wir ihn nicht gefunden und uns verpasst, aber nur fast. Malin hatte dieses Event organisiert und ein Tee-Treffen später kam Michela dazu. Es waren zwar noch andere dabei, es kristallisierte sich allerdings schnell unsere Schweden-Österreich-Italien-Hongkong-Formation heraus. Tee ist dabei nur ein verbindendes Element. Unsere Freundschaft hat sich entspannt entwickelt, ist innig und harmonisch.

Iris ist eine wunderbare Wundertüte. Beim ersten Treffen merkte ich sofort, dass sie weltgewandt, entdeckungsfreudig und interkulturell versiert ist.

Sie ist Lektorin, hat in Wien und Berlin studiert und unter anderem in Los Angeles, Tokio und Paris gearbeitet. Sie reist gerne und viel. Ihre Entdeckerfreude erstreckt sich über Länder, Kulturen, Kulinarik und Sprachen. Ihre Schilderungen über ihre letzte Iran-Reise fand ich persönlich besonders spannend. Sie arbeitet an Projekten, die ihre Werte und Haltung zur Welt widerspiegeln. Achtsamkeit und Balance sind Aspekte in ihrem Leben, die ihr wichtig sind.

Sie hat auf der ganzen Welt einen großen Freundeskreis und besitzt die schöne Gabe, verbindlich und aufmerksam mit Menschen zu sein. Auf ihrer privaten Party mit dem Namen „punschextravaganza“ habe ich u.a. die New Yorkerin Frances kennengelernt. Iris ist stilvoll mit Grandezza und hat eine unaufdringliche, sehr aufmerksame Intelligenz und Empathie. Sie besitzt eine facettenreiche innere Landschaft.

Uns verbindet neben dem (maßvollen) Genuss vor allem die Liebe zur Sprache, gespickt mit Humor.

Ein Treffen mit ihr (mit/ohne die anderen Tea Ladies) ist wie ein entspannter Kurzurlaub.

April 2018. Meetup tea picnic in Volkspark Friedrichshain with two handfuls of tea-loving strangers. The group was not easy to find because the park was crowded. Iris and I (separately) walked several laps until we found the spot. We almost didn’t find it and missed each other, but only almost. Malin had organized this event and one tea meeting later Michela joined us. There were others there, but our Sweden-Austria-Italy-Hong Kong formation quickly crystallized. Tea is only one connecting element. Our friendship has developed in a relaxed way, is intimate and harmonious.

Iris is a wonderful miracle bag. At the first meeting I immediately noticed that she is worldly, explorative and interculturally versed.

She is an editor, has studied in Vienna and Berlin, and has worked in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Paris, among other places. She likes to travel a lot. Her joy of discovery spans countries, cultures, culinary arts and languages. I personally found her descriptions of her last trip to Iran particularly exciting. She works on projects that reflect her values and attitude towards the world. Mindfulness and balance are aspects of her life that are important to her.

She has a large circle of friends around the world and has a beautiful gift of being engaging and attentive with people. At her private party called “punschextravaganza” I met Frances, a New Yorker, among others. Iris is stylish with grandeur and has an unobtrusive, very attentive intelligence and empathy. She possesses a multi-faceted inner landscape.

We share a love of language, peppered with humor, in addition to (moderate) enjoyment.

A meeting with her (with/without the other Tea Ladies) is like a relaxing short vacation.

Forsthaus Strelitz. Zugegeben nicht mehr in Berlin, aber nur eine kurze Zugfahrt entfernt. Und der Ort, wo ich all das finde, was ich an Menschen, Kulinarik und Design mag.

Lieblingsessen

Zitroniger Ofen-Brokkoli. Der findet sich nämlich gerade oft in meiner Gemüsekiste. Also der Brokkoli. Und das Rezept ist so wunderbar minimalistisch: Waschen und in mundgerechte Stücke teilen. Den Saft einer Zitrone mit Olivenöl vermengen und den Brokkoli damit marinieren. Dann 20 Minuten bei 180 Grad in den Ofen damit, bis alles goldbraun und knusprig ist. Und dann noch etwas Parmesan und Meersalz drauf.

Der beste Rat, den Du je erhalten hast

Auf einem Dampfer, der in die falsche Richtung fährt, kann man nicht sehr weit in die richtige Richtung gehen. – Im Original von Michael Ende. Aber (vor-)gelebt von meinem Papa, der Kapitän auf der Donau war.

Forsthaus Strelitz. Admittedly no longer in Berlin, but only a short train ride away. And the place where I find all that I like in people, culinary and design.

Favorite food

Lemony oven broccoli. Because that’s what you’ll find in my veggie box a lot right now. So the broccoli it is. And the recipe is so wonderfully minimalist: wash and divide into bite-sized pieces. Mix the juice of one lemon with olive oil and marinate the broccoli with it. Then 20 minutes at 180 degrees in the oven with it, until everything is golden brown and crispy. And then add some parmesan and sea salt on top.

The best advice you ever received

You can’t go very far in the right direction on a steamer going in the wrong direction. – In the original by Michael Ende. But (pre)lived by my dad, who was a captain on the Danube.
